Leafing

Here in Ohio, the leaves have left us. I was never a big fan of the fall since I felt like things were going away until this year when the stunning fall colors of the Cuyahoga Valley made me think differently. Fall is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Yes, things are changing. But that doesn't mean everything is going away. For example, it was always sad to me to think in autumn, we were losing leaves and that they were dying. But I recently learned that when leaves drop from trees, the tree attempts to conserve energy rather than only dying and decaying. Saving energy is also the main priority for the groundhog who ate my spinach last summer, as she borrows down underneath my shed for another year of hibernation. And some of the birds that fly over my house, your house, and our friends to the south also find a way to save on energy by turning off half of their brain to "sleep" during their migration.

The hippie's taught us that ". . . it's all vibes, man," and they have a point. Vibration can be observed and measured down to the atom of every piece of matter. In that vibration is energy, and we in the Northern Hemisphere are getting a front-row seat to watch nature conserve her energy.

As we enter the holiday season, reflecting and honoring this energy conservation process is essential. From the food we eat to the comments we make, are we pulling energy or giving it? What needs to be turned off, or what needs to be shut down? What do we need to let go or leave behind?

Everything is energy. Where you direct your energy dictates everything else.
